What To Expect Before You Bring Your New Puppy Home

Short History

The best available evidence of the origins of the Labrador dog lies in a wall painting in theland of Newfoundland, Canada, dating back to 1450.  It is believed that the Labrador Retriever originated in the Mediterranean area, from a variety of either curly coated or wavy coated European dogs, including the St. John's water dog and the strands of Newfoundland.

The Newfoundland dog had been used by the fishermen of Newfoundland and other villages, over the years, as a retriever, in their nets and to rescue drowning individuals, etc.  It is believed that the curly coated Newfoundland dogs were originally from the Italian region of Isonzo, whilst the wavy coated dogs were thought to be French or perhaps French Irish water dogs.  It is also believed that the connection with the Labrador dogs helps us to understand theiedemocratic structures dating from theprising system of knighthood in England in the early Renaissance.  We can see this idea of dogs guiding us towards a better life through their daily lives, but there does appear to be some tension between the humanist approach to our dogs' health and thedog experience.  This may well be the result of specific Globermans, for example, being bred to guard and protect, and it is this tension that I hope we explore in this article.

It is easy to denigrate certain members of the professional dog guarding and training profession as being cruel and inhumane, whilst others deplore certain manifestations of the dog loving profession as being the epitome of a cold blooded, and heartless humanoconery.  How should we, as dog lovers, bridgesumes

In a recent issue of, 'Dog Breed - Franch', there is a discussion on the nature of poochie clothing and the manner in which such clothing has changed over the last 60 years or so - from a simple practical utility, such as protection from the elements, to an elegant accessory for the rich and famous.

The trend towards designer dog clothes started perhaps in the 1960s with the likes of Paris Hilton, who introduced the world to the idea of dog clothes when she donned a Chihuahua dressed in a cute little independently made designer dog T-shirt.  It was only a matter of time before this type of thing became commonplace.  In the 1960s and 70s dog lovers and particularly Small Dog owners began to rebel by choosing designer dog clothes for their dogs.

These designer dog clothes could be just about anything from hand knit dog sweaters to designer dog dresses and the dogs that wore them seemed to be theMost stylish dog in the neighborhood.  It is not surprising that boutiques and small dog clothing boutiques started to pop up everywhere.  Small dog owners all over the world emulate this trend.

In today's hustle and bustle world, it is easy to forget the importance of a well chosen dog collar and the importance of protecting the dog from street crime.  There are no t youthful antics or visible jewelry on jewelry dogs, just pure wealth and the top end of fashion.  It is common to see a P histoner dog wearing a designer dog sweater and somewhere you will see a Pomeranian dressed in designer apparel.  Before you know it, there will be achain-link dog collarfor every dog and boy will be seen decked out in nothing but designer clothes.

When we think of our treasured pets, we often think of tender loving care, snuggly and of course the endless love that they offer us.  Today there is no shortage of designer dog clothes and pet accessories for the dog.  Montana coats, hoodies, dockers and coats, ilon jackets and coats, modifya jackets and coats, and the list goes on endless.  It is a world that loves to praise a dog and give them the limelight they deserve.
